Logistics Cost Reduction Initiative
How fleet, route and cost-to-serve data were joined for a logistics operator so service performance and cost could be read together.
Key outcomes
A Perth-based logistics provider was experiencing rising transport costs and inconsistent reporting across its fleet operations. Operational data was spread across multiple systems, including telematics platforms, ERP systems and financial reporting tools. As a result, leadership lacked a unified view of logistics performance and struggled to identify the drivers behind increasing transport costs.
Fleet managers relied on periodic spreadsheet reports that required manual consolidation of delivery data, fuel usage and operational costs. This process was time consuming and often resulted in delays in identifying performance issues. Without real-time insight into route efficiency, cost per shipment and delivery performance, the organisation had limited ability to optimise logistics operations or respond quickly to emerging inefficiencies.
Roar Data implemented a Power BI logistics performance reporting framework designed to centralise operational data across the organisation. Telematics systems, ERP logistics data and financial reporting platforms were integrated into a unified Power BI data model that standardised key logistics performance metrics.
Executive dashboards were developed to provide real-time visibility into route efficiency, cost per shipment, delivery performance and fleet utilisation. These dashboards allowed operations teams and leadership to monitor logistics performance across routes and delivery regions, identify inefficiencies and make faster operational decisions.
With improved visibility into logistics performance, the organisation was able to optimise delivery routes, better manage transport costs and improve operational efficiency across its fleet.
Following implementation, the organisation reduced cost per shipment by 12% and improved on-time delivery performance by 9%, enabling more reliable service delivery and stronger operational control.
